Petition of the Free Colored Citizens of Louisiana In Stock Now

In early 1864, Arnold Bertonneau personally delivered a petition to President Lincoln, signed by over 700 black New Orleanians, demanding suffrage. Lincoln was impressed with these men, and although reluctant to endorse their cause, immediately advised the governor of Louisiana to consider restricted black voting rights.

This poster is a representation of that petition along with all of the names of the men that signed it, which is listed at the bottom.
