Materials for Collegiate Academies Physics Unit 5 Labs. Designed for groups of 4-6 students. Please let us know how many groups you have. 

1. Driving Question: How do currents work? Can we observe and investigate electromagnetism?

1 Large Iron Nail (min 6 cm)

4-6 Small Paperclips

1 Meter of Thin Coated Copper Wire for Magnets

1 D or C Size Battery

2. Driving Question: What are electromagnets? How do they work?

Materials (For each group):

1 Meter of copper insulated wire 

1 Wire Stripper

3 Large Iron Nails

1 Iron Bolt (Larger than the three nails put together)

1 Compass

1 Light Bulb

1 D or C Battery

3. Driving Question: Can we investigate how batteries generate electrical charges?
