Dichloromethane, also known as methylene chloride (DCM), is a colorless, volatile liquid with a chloroform-like odor. It is slightly polar and miscible with many organic solvents, but not water. Dichloromethane has a melting point of -96.7°C and a boiling point of 39.8°C. Methylene chloride is used in various industrial processes, in many different industries including paint stripping, pharmaceutical manufacturing, paint remover manufacturing, and metal cleaning and degreasing. This colorless, volatile liquid with a chloroform-like, sweet odor is widely used as a solvent. Although it is not miscible with water, it is slightly polar, and miscible with many organic solvents.
