Chalk Sediment Kit Check Availability

Demonstrate the effects of weathering with this simple to use kit!

Simply use the included containers with lids to shake and create sediment. The shaking simulates how rocks fall from cliffs, churn in fast moving mountain streams and break down from waves. Students create sediment from chalk dust to show how sediment or sand is created from the weathering of rocks.

Included for a class of 30 in groups of 3:

10 Containers

10 portions of marbles

10 portions of chalk

Salt

Vinegar

Students can see how different colors of sand can be found in nature depending on the rocks that eroded to make the sand. Salt can be added to speed up the weathering process. Students can observe how vinegar eat through chalk to show how chemical reactions can speed up weathering as well.
